So it's been a great series for the Dodgers. On Tuesday night Wilson Betemit, Matt Kemp and Hong-Chih Kuo all hit back to back to back Home Runs, and all off the first pitch. It was amazing to watch, it takes me back to the night I was at the game with my good friend Vanessa where the Dodgers hit four back to back home runs. She also remembers the night well lol. The Night ended with a 4-1 victory, the Dodgers seem to be working very hard, and I love it!
At last night's game Brad Penny held the Mets to one run on seven hits in seven innings which helped him get his eighth victory, and the offense came to life late to deliver the Dodgers' first sweep of the Mets since 2002. Wilson Betemit and James Loney went deep, Matt Kemp had three hits and Rafael Furcal had a pair of triples.
"I'll always remember getting swept in the playoffs last year," said catcher Russell Martin. "I'll always try extra hard when I'm playing the Mets. There's a little bit of revenge, and it's not really over yet. This sweep isn't like their sweep. Nobody here has forgotten that. It's always good to beat the Mets."
There was an interesting exchange between Brad Penny and ex Dodger Shawn Green at the end of the third, here's what they said they were talking about.
"I was a little mad at the time," said Penny. "[Green] was giving pitch location to the hitter from second base in the first inning. When you do that, and you have a reputation for doing that, people are watching you and you take a chance of getting yourself or your team where you shouldn't be."
"I was working on my shin guard, and there he was," said Green. "He said I was giving location of pitches from second base, which wasn't true. A little bit of paranoia on their side. If you think someone is stealing signs, you change the signs. It's that simple."
I've really grown a love for watching the games on TV, granted I will do the channel flip from time to time, but you get to see so much more than when your at a game. I love player reactions, such as last night, there was a moment that Martin was pretty pissed and flipped his helmet up and it landed on the top of the Dugout, a fan threw it back. Now let's be honest if that was me I wouldn't have thrown it back. I would have made Russell come and get it himself. I also love watching the players get excited, secret hand shakes that seem so elaborate, high fives and tons of butt slaps. Well enough of my ramblings, The boys are off tonight and will be back on Friday for another Freeway Series, this time at home. I know a lot of Angel Fans so lets all hope for a victory.
So as we all know the All-Star game is coming up (July 10th to be exact) And voting ends this Sunday for fans in stadiums around the country but online voting will end June 28th. And as of now Dodger fans have spoken up and pushed Catcher Russell Martin into first place. He is now about 13,000 votes ahead of Met's catcher Paul Lo Duca. Let's compare Martin and Lo Duca for a second
So yes Lo Duca has a better Batting Average, but who can deny 7HR's and 41 RBI's. Not even Paul Lo Duca can, he was quoted in the L.A. Times today saying "Russell deserves to go" to the All-Star game and said if he had a vote, it'd probably go to Martin. Now that's what I call a good sport. So if you're true blue and got a couple of seconds, go VOTE!! AGAIN!!!
Play Ball
p.s. Went to the game last night, What a great win over the big NY. L.A. is where it's at, Good luck to the boys in blue tonight as they take on the Mets at 7:10 at Dodger Stadium, I'll be watching from my living room this time.
A beautiful Sunday afternoon, what a great day to be at the ball park. Sadly it wasn't that great of a day for the Dodgers. With a final score of 11-5 the Blue Jays killed us. It was nice to see the players not give up and score a few more runs in the 9th inning. We'll get em' next time.
There was also a familar face on 1st base as well
"Loney, a first baseman and outfielder, was recalled and made his first start of the season on Sunday in place of Nomar Garciaparra. He laced an RBI double in his first at-bat".
"Loney was hitting .279 with 19 doubles, one homer and 32 RBIs for Triple-A Las Vegas before being called up. Loney, who was unhappy with the Dodgers' decision to send him to Las Vegas after Spring Training, said he was glad to be back in the Majors."
In other player news
"Clark, who was hitting .224 (13-for-58) with four doubles and five RBIs, was informed in the morning that he would no longer be with the Dodgers. Clark will have a 10-day period in which he could be traded or released and after that period he will have cleared waivers and will likely opt out of his contract and become a free agent. "
We'll see what happens...Enjoy the rest of your Sunday Everyone
