Fate (or Uncle Sam) brought us together in September of '06 to Ft Sam Houston, TX. A country boy from Missouri and an Orange county girl from California, we both knew that when our orders were up we would have to go to our respective homes, 1200 miles apart, but that didn't stop us from falling in love. We soon discovered that we could spend all day in conversation, and always had more to talk about. When the time came for us to part, we just couldnt let each other go. We bought a car and drove to Missouri, packed the car as full as we could with Caleb's things, and headed along Route 66 to California. Since then we have grown closer each day.
We have been planning our marriage for June 6th of 2008, and recently found out that Melissa has been called to Iraq in May. After cancelling our wedding, Caleb has struggled to join her unit so that we don't have to seperate. We don't have the time or the money to plan another wedding, so we were planning to have a Justice of the Peace marriage. We would be more than blessed if we were chosen for this dream wedding.

It's 4:30 in the morning and I just got home from work (only one and a half more hours till Caleb comes home =-) I just wanted to write a quick... HUGE... thank you note for everyone who has wished us luck and given their encouraging words. There are so many deserving couples in this competition that with everybody's support it helps us stay in there. It would be amazing if they offered a thousand perfect weddings for all the contestants in this competition because there are so many remarkable love stories. But sadly there is only one prize. We want to wish everyone luck in the next couple weeks as they reveal the finalists. I know we can't be the only couple holding our breaths as they call out the names =-) I hope that all the contestants in this competition has the same love and support that we have from our family and friends (and each other... =-) I like to look at everyone's site and know the story behind the pictures. Thank you all so much for also coming to our page and showing your support. We are all in this together.
So just a quick editors note.... It was actually several hours later that Caleb came home from work today because on the way to his office at the end of his shift (Caleb's an Ambulance driver and EMT), he got into a pretty scary accident. Nobody was hurt, except a couple of minor cuts and bruises and a bump on Caleb's head. We are so thankful and blessed that we have each other and moments like these really make you stop and realize this... So make sure you take a moment (or several moments =-) to tell everyone who means anything to you how much you love them today.
Welcome to our group... Please feel free to look around. Make yourself at home =-). Read our story about how our perfect world *minus the war part and us having to seperate =-( * started. Thanks for your support!
So we are excited about this competition and the idea of winning is actually kind of overwhelming... It's a dream come true. Thinking about it really takes my breath away and puts tears in my eyes. (I know I'm a dork... lol)
But there is a whole other side of this competition. Really another very important side of it. It's really fun to document our perfect relationship on the computer and post our pictures and thoughts, but in the end we also have to prepare ourselves for marriage. Because ultimately after our perfect wedding, we have to begin our lives as husband as wife.
Caleb and I have been preparing for our new life in many ways... We bought books (I know we sound lame =-) ), we attended hope for my marriage classes, we asked the hard questions (what happens if you become attracted to someone else, what happens if someone wants to change their religion...etc.), and our favorite one of all, we asked people who really know marriage best, our friends and family members who have been married for 25, 32, and even 50 years (wow!)
We are so excited about our marriage, our wedding, and everything that life has in store for us. Our first year of marriage of course wont be traditional, with either one or both of us in Iraq. But will have the strength and even tighter bond of husband and wife. Love conquers all things right? So there no way were going to let some war come between us. Thank you for all your support and prayers, we need a lot of it... because even though were the perfect couple, we still need that extra push from above =-)
This is something that requires so much thought and prayer. We are wanting a place that we can set down our roots in. Somewhere where we can grow not only in faith but also maturity. We were raised in two very different forms of Christian. Him a Southern Baptist and I in the Friends Christian denomination. I love that as we search for a place where we can both worship and feel comfortable we are reaching yet another level in our relationship.
So help us find a Church =-) We live in the Fullerton area, but we are willing to travel... Thank you for your help in our search! See you on Sunday... =-)
Hi Melissa and Caleb,
Today is sort of difficult because I am sorry for those of you who have such sweet stories and didn't get in the finalists, but I am so excited because my daughter made it.
I pray that God will use this experience and bless you with an amazing wedding soon.
