    More Kevin Jonas!!!!

    Tuesday, June 24, 2008, 07:28 PM [General]

So watching "Camp Rock" this weekend the question that flooded my mind  "Why isn't there moreKevin Jonas?!?"  Seriously why doesn't anyone ever talk about this guy??  Its always Nick this and Joe that.  What about Kevin??  He's the only Jonas I can look at and think is hot without feeling totally creepy about it...  I'm just saying he's 20 its TOTALLY ok...

Listen up Disney, Camp Rock 2 insert a story line where Kevin's character is a major player.  Maybe have him save the camp from getting shut down.  Or fall in love with a cute new camp counselor.... oh and you need someone to play the cute new camp counselor i think i can free up my time... putting it out there ... :)

Headliner??? Nope, I'm there for the opening act!

    Tuesday, April 15, 2008, 11:16 PM [General]

I have this horrible habit that needs to stop.  It's costing me way too much money and taking up all my time.  Last Saturday night I once again gave into my habit by making my way to Sunset Blvd to the House of Blues.  Hi my name is Jessica and I am a concert-acholic.

This Saturday's adventures bought me to the Yellowcard show.  What I didn't know going into was that the tour was all acoustic.  I have always been a huge fan of acoustic shows.  I believe it is the one true way to display the true talent of the artist.  The verdict of Yellowcard's acoustic set?  They are indeed talented.  Who knew?  I will admit that I don't own any Yellowcard CDs, not that I don't like band I just never got that into them, which became the one drawback during the show.  Acoustic shows are usually geared towards entertaining the major fans, and we casual listeners are left to wonder why we don't know the words to the songs.  For what it is worth, those huge fans seemed to be plenty pleased and I was entertained for a short while.  By the way, the violinist for Yellowcard is the most adorable thing ever.  I just wanted to pinch his cheeks.  Weird?  Yes, but it's the truth.

No offense to Yellowcard, but I didn't go to the show to see them.  I was there to see my favorite band, The Spill Canvas.  This might not be name you have heard before, but trust me you will hear a lot more about these guys very soon.  I was first introduced to TSC a couple years ago when they opened for Motion City Soundtrack.  I immediately found myself spellbound by their melodic sound and lead singer Nick Thomas' passion for his lyrics.  Saturday night I was just as impressed by their live show as that first time.  If anything their performances has become stronger as they have grown as a band.  Even though they were not the headliners for the night, they still got the crowd moving along to fan favorites like "Stapled Gunned" and "Natalie and 1cc."  The highlight for me was the addition of a little funk to their current single "All Over You."  I'm just putting it out there it would be nice to have that version on iTunes so I could add it to my gym mix.  I'm just saying.... But I digress.  I do wish they had more time to play so that the acoustic guitar could be broken out a couple more times.  Alas, that is the bane of the opening act.  They only played one song on the acoustic guitar, in which they were joined by that adorable violinist from Yellowcard.  Seriously, too cute.  Just a quick note to the fans, what was with the mosh pit at the end of their set?  The Spill Canvas is soooooo not a mosh pit band.  You guys looked like total losers.  Sorry but sometimes the truth hurts.

Of course there were other bands that I had to sit through before my boys came on.  Luckily the two bands weren't half bad which made the experience a little easier.  First was Treaty of Paris, a fun generic emo band.  I couldn't help but laugh at the lead singer's banter between songs that you could totally tell he practiced in the mirror before the show.  It was cute in that "he's young and trying really hard" kinda way.  Treaty of Paris doesn't have the most profound lyrics, but their music has a lot of fun energy that the high school emo kids will easily relate too.  "Why Am I Always Broke?" has become my personal theme song.

The second band up was PlayRadioPlay, a young buzz-band I have been hearing thrown around a lot lately.  It's easy to hear why Alternative Press magazine dubbed them one of the "Artists to Watch" in 2008.  Their brand of electronic pop-rock sounds like a mature Hellogoodbye that has grown out of their self-indulgent phase.  Their set flowed well, mostly in thanks to the protools system that most of their music played off of and could only be started once at the start of the set.  I couldn't help but wonder what would happen if something went wrong, how would they work stopping and re-starting the system?  Oh well, some things are would be better left unknown I suppose.  I defiantly suggest you check out PlayRadioPlay's track "I'm a Pirate, You're a Princess."

P.S. If you want to catch The Spill Canvas yourself and see why I'm obsessed they will be in town on June 25th at the House of Blues in Anahiem... Yeah I'll be there!

    Cobra Starship - Jillians - Las Vegas - 2/17/08

    Thursday, February 28, 2008, 12:41 PM [General]

Tutus.  Like on a ballerina.  Is this a new trend?  Or is it the official mission of emo high-school kids to look as ridiculous as possible while checking out their favorite band?  "We the emo nation shall strive to wear mismatched leggings and tops with accessories normally reserved for a dance recitals in order to pay homage to the music I love."

Guy-liner I get.  Skinny jeans I get.  Hell I even get those awesome vests.  But Tutus are just STRANGE!

This weekend I went to check out one of my FAVORITE bands, Cobra Starship, at Jillian's in Las Vegas.  I saw five different girls, FIVE, sporting tutus above their jeans.  Anyone want to explain this to me?  Cause I am lost....

But I digress.  I went there to see a band not complain about how old I felt as I stood in line (which will be another blog entirely).

I, like many in Los Angeles, was DYING to see Cobra Starship and disappointed that they sold out completely here.  Oh but there is a show that Sunday in Vegas?  And I have Monday off?  Well twist my arm why don't ya.  So my girls and I made the trek out to the desert to see the boys perform and Jillian's on Fremont Street.  (We left on Friday by the way, thought we would make a weekend out of it!  Why not?)

Usually we go a little late when we don't really care about the opening acts, but we made sure not to miss one this time.  The first band to go on was We The Kings, who I had found one day by roaming Pure Volume.  They defiantly did not disappoint while performing or when talking to fans throughout the rest of the night.  New member of the Fueled by Ramen family, The Cab, also opened the show in their hometown of Las Vegas.  This was my first time really hearing their band and I was impressed by their pop-rock sound and amazing vocals of their lead-singer.  The cheese factor was a little apparent when the lead singer covered Edwin McCain's "I'll Be" and dedicated it to his girlfriend.  Hello cliché!!  Why not sing Dashboard Confessional's "Hands Down" or something like that?  I'm just saying....

The opening act I was most excited to see was Metro Station.  Why you ask?  Cause they have good music?  Well that's true but not quite there.  Cause they have a cool name?  No, keep on trying... Cause the guys are kinda hot?  Oh, you're so close....  I'll give you a hint.  The band's lead guitarist is names Trace Cyrus... That is right Cyrus as in Miley Cyrus.  Yup, this band was started by Miley Cyrus' older brother Trace!  And I must admit he's kinda hot!  Tall, skinny, and a TON of tattoos... He's every emo girls dream, including mine.  Now just because they are related, don't expect Trace and Metro Station to join the Disney team. Their lyrics... are... well... let's just say don't expect them to join Miley on tour anytime soon!  However, if you enjoy a rock band that has a ton of energy and that doesn't make your teeth hurt like the Jonas Brothers, then make sure to check them out.  They are REALLY good!!!

Oh, and before you all start hating I do like the Jonas Brothers too...

But on to the main event:  COBRA STARSHIP!!!!

I first caught these guys on-stage at their first show at the Key Club in October of 2006 and I have seen them many times since then.  Each time they defiantly do not disappoint.  You might only know them as "that band that did the ‘Snakes on a Plane' song" but trust me that is not even their best songs.  With a mix of 80's influence with today's pop-rock, Cobra Starship is one of the more original bands on the scene today.  Dude, the have a chick keytar player!  It can't get much cooler than that!   Front-man, and man of my dreams, Gabe Saporta, has this amazing energy that you can't help but absorb like osmosis during the show.  His dance moves and attitude make him sexy in that he's-kinda-dorky-which-makes-him-hot way.  Or maybe that's just me...and the chicks that screamed as he thrust his hips toward the crowd.  Let me just say I think they saved my life that night.  I thought I was dying from the intentional flu (a.k.a. hangover) before the show, but by the time it was over I felt like I was saved!!!  Oh thank you Church of Hot Addiction!!!  (Get their first CD and that will totally make sense.)

So conclude... emo girls wear tutus... I feel old... Miley Cyrus' brother is hot... and Cobra Starship saved my life!!!  All-in-all I think it was a well-spent evening....

Oh and by the way, after the show as I was sitting in my hotel casino, guess who walked in and we followed to the Playboy Club and I watched from far away because I couldn't talk to them even though we had met a couple times before???  Oh yeah..... I'm a loser...

    Paramore- say it isn't so!!!!

    Thursday, February 21, 2008, 02:36 PM [General]

So Paramore just announced they have canceled the rest of their European tour and then posted this on their blog:

    "Hey guys,

As most of you already know, we have cancelled the rest of our UK/Europe RIOT Tour. First of all, we want to say we are so sorry for letting all of you down. We feel terrible about it and really didn't expect for this to happen. It probably doesn't sound like much but we just hate that we won't get to play this show for those of you who had hoped to see it.

There are a lot of internal issues that have been going on in this band for quite a while now. A lot of it started right around the time we were gearing up for the RIOT Tour in the US. We were able to fight through all of it for this long but unfortunately we weren't able to keep it together long enough to make it through 'til the end of this tour. We really feel that taking this time is going to give us a chance to get away and work out our personal issues at home and on our own terms. We just aren't willing to risk the life of our band over one tour. That probably sounds terrible right now, to say that finishing a week of shows wasn't worth it... but if we can use this next month wisely then we will be a lot healthier for the tours ahead. We hope that - even though it might be hard to understand - that you guys can support us at this time.

Maybe one day we will tell the whole story but for now, just know that all five of us are going to work so hard to get it right. You deserve that and we deserve to make this last as long as possible - and to enjoy every second of it. We love you guys so much. If you could pray for us or just keep us in your thoughts it would be really helpful. You guys have gotten us so far and been the best motivators since day one. We are so sorry for the trouble we caused you guys who bought tickets, fan club members and to all the promoters and venues that we won't be there to put on a show for. We are extremely sorry to New Found Glory and all their fans who wanted to put on and see a show and who we've let down. And lastly, to Lost Alone.

We will keep you guys updated.

    Love,
Hayley, Jeremy, Josh, Zac and Taylor"

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!  What does this mean???  Will I see you guys in May at Bamboozle Left???  Rumors are now going around that they are breaking up!!!!  What do you guys think???
