E - Our perfect date was our first date. You see we were friends first and then transitioned into actually dating, so in late October 06 we finally went on our first real date. First, we had tickets to go see “Into the Woods” at a small theatre in LA. We ended up getting lost on the way to the theatre and didn’t find the threatre until the show was nearly over. But, it really didn’t matter. I have never had more fun getting lost. We were talking and laughing through the whole car ride and ultimately didn’t mind that we missed the show. That night we called my best friend who lives in Santa Monica and went out with her in Venice.
The next day we went to the opening of Adam Neeley’s Art Jewelry in Laguna Beach. Adam is a friend of mine and an amazing jewelry designer and creator. Derric and I got to drink wine and be cultured, then whisked ourselves off to a sushi bar. After a long dinner of amazing sushi and saki, we then went back to his house to watch a video of Jay-Z and Linkin Park for a little rockin’ out and followed it up with some wine and watched Moulin Rouge. It was an amazing weekend. We got to have some culture, fine dining, good theater (cinema actually) and partying fun. We mixed so well in each situation; we just knew it was meant to be.

Your PERFECT Engagement
D - Our engagement was beautiful, but bittersweet. You see my Mom had passed away only 3 weeks before the engagement. In fact, the day before she passed away I put down the deposit on the ring. My mom was excited for the event, but was going out of town for a few weeks. So, together we planned to wait for me to propose until the day she returned from her vacation. Although it was difficult to have such an important moment now without my mom, it was important to me to keep the engagement on the same day as she knew it would happen. My mom loved Erin and wouldn’t want me to postpone what we were both so looking forward to. So, I made plans for dinner, but decided to go down to the beach before. We went to a small park on the cliffs of Laguna Beach that looks out into the ocean and a private beach. We talked and laughed, as we always do, but that’s exactly our style. It was nearly sunset and just the perfect time of day when I asked her to marry me. I then whisked her off to dinner at the sushi restaurant where we had our first “perfect date.” After a quick dinner we were rushed back to the house where I had a small surprise engagement party waiting for us with champagne and a group of our closest friends.

It's more than just Love. She knows me better than anyone ever has, loves me for my quirks and we show each other the utmost respect. I have a cheesy romantic side that she loves and let’s me indulge in. She has all the qualities I’ve ever looked for in someone. If I created a checklist for my perfect match, my soul mate, she is 100% of each item on list. And on top of all that, I am completely attracted to her. Most of all, our connection goes beyond love. I can feel her in every beat of my heart, each moment of my day. She is always with me. She’s part of my very soul.

Why do I love Derric? Oh there’s so much to say…..First, he is the man of my dreams and more. Of course anyone can see he is tall and handsome, but he is also funny and intelligent, educated and cultured, silly and strong, and so much more. We are a perfect match when it comes to our interests and personalities, but more than that he makes my heart skip a beat, and always has. When we are together it feels like old time Hollywood romance. Remember those old black and white movies where the leading man falls madly in love with the leading lady and then gallantly sweeps her off her feet? That is the best way I can describe how I still swoon for Derric. Seriously, I even pop my leg when he kisses me and go weak in the knees when he is near. He sings to me while we do dishes and carries me up to bed when I fall asleep on the couch. He is my best friend, my partner, and my knight in shining armor all rolled into one. Honestly, Derric is just so easy to love and so amazing at loving me. I adore him with all I have within me. He has changed the course of the rest of my life and there is no one else I would rather have by my side for all eternity.

D& E - Our perfect life would be filled with family, friends, love, laughter, and health. As far as we are concerned as long as we have these things the rest will fall into place. Since both of us are only children who each lost a parent we share a desire to build a larger family in our friends. We are the entertainers of our friend group and want to make the kind of home that is warm and welcoming and full of happy voices.
Our perfect wedding colors will be
E - Soft elegant neutrals. If we are lucky enough to win the dream wedding we will visit Il Ciento and choose colors that compliment the naturally existing plant life as well as the style and decor of the building.
The perfect wedding flowers will be
E- Beautiful and traditional in neutral colors like ivory and cream.
The perfect wedding music will be
E - First off let me say that the music is VERY important. Honestly, what is everyone’s favorite part of a wedding? And for all those of you who just thought “alcohol,” come on….it’s the dancing. We will start out romantic and slow over dinner and through our first dances. It will be ever so Rat Pack – Michael Bouble – charming. We will then move into the more lively dancing music for everyone. It needs to be a selection that kids aren’t embarrassed to dance to, yet doesn’t intimidate the older family members either. We all know this portion of the evening where most wedding DJ’s play “Celebrate Good Times” “We Are Family” and even some times the dreaded “Chicken Dance.” Well, Derrin’s Love Machine are Kiis FM listeners so we will be raising the bar a bit.
D – Ok honey my turn, this was my idea. So we continue drinking and dancing until 10:00pm when the party turns into Club Derrin and we start playing OUR type of songs. You know, Kiis FM favorites like Club, Hip-Hop, Dance and Pop with Justin, Ying-Yang, and Jay-Z to name a few on the list.
Our first dance will be to
E-Oh no no no. We will not reveal this one. We can’t have anyone else stealing, ok borrowing, our idea. We can guarantee that it will be a newly released song that has all the charm and charisma of an old an old Tony Bennett romance song. And just in case you were wondering, No it will not be “Love Machine” : )
The guest most likely to cry:
D – My Grandmother will most likely cry, but many of my family and friends will as well. They will be crying for our happiness at our wedding, but also for my Mom who waited all her life for this day and although she met and loved Erin, she could not be here with us, save only in spirit.
The guest most likely to embarrass themselves
D – That would be my cousin Johnny.
He’s always a little crazy, but he’s been like a little brother to me. There has rarely been a time when something a little crazy doesn’t happen, but that’s family.
The guest most likely to give the PERFECT toast
D – We want to give as many of our guests the chance to say something that want to and I know some of our close friends will have some amazing things to say, but I’d have to say Dad will give a great speech.

Derric and Erin
After my dad passed away Mach 20th, 2005 I (Erin) started a scholarship fund in his name at the college where he taught for over 30 years. My dad was a calculus professor and head of the math department at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa. I am so proud of him and the legacy he has left behind.

Sorry it's been a few days since our last post, but we are back home with Derric's family at his family reunion in upstate New York. We are collecting tons of pics and footage for some awesome videos. I don't want to say too much but one video is definitely going to rock your world. They are going to be awesome!!!!
