Here we are with family celebrating my cousin's 21st b-day. Give us the opportunity to enjoy our special day with our whole family! Vote for us because we love each other and we look forward to sharing our lives together with family that have paved the way for us in valuing and sharing each other. No matter how tough life gets family is always there and this day would mean more than words can say.

Our families both came to the U.S from Mexico to provide us with the best they could. Tomas grew up in Palmdale and Mayrena in South Central Los Angeles and despite being raised in lower-income communities, were sometimes education is not the best and things aren't handed to you, the values of education and hard work are inherited in our family. Mayrena's parents worked overtime in factories, where you have to stand all day and are considered just another number and all to put their kids through Catholic schools.  Being put in a private school in south central was in no way a luxury, it was a need, since public schools lacked the resources and on a daily basis kids were exposed to gang activites. Tomas's parents also had to endure the pain of working in low paying jobs, but luckily palmdale had a better education system, which his parents were very aware of.  Thanks to them we know that if you want to make things happen hard work and education can help you and our future children; can't wait to be a mommy.

In 2004 Mayrena got her B.A in Television and Film and is currently pushing her way up at HBO with the same working ethics her parents have instilled in her. People might immediately assume she must make lots of money, but the reality is that assistants don't and especially with trying to pay rent, school loans and credit cards. Tomas is constantly trying to devote his time to his studies, but when you have bad luck with cars and always trying to help out family, your priority becomes work so you can survive.

Two times his car was hit while parked on the street and 2 other times distracted drivers hit him; day after he purchased a car it was destroyed. Everytime Tomas thought I'm all caught up paying my credit cards off something like this would happen. He now drives a 96 VW and had been fine for a year, but now his car engine is leaking oil. Help us have our wedding with problems like these popping up we can't realistically save for a wedding and our parents don't have the financial stability to help us. 

We want to thank our families for always being there. With this wedding we want to demonstrate that it was worth the wait. We met at 22 and through these years of school, work, bills and time of really getting to know ourselves, we feel 29 is the right age to start our lives living together.
We live seperatly and we look forward to living together because to us a wedding isn't just an after thought, it's the beginning of US!, These 6 years have provided us with the knowledge that love can withstand and that we both tried to better ourselves mentally with awesome values to be as prepared as we can be to have children and provide for them, just the way our parents did for us. Thank you parents! We are making it out of the hood and with each others love we can go much further!

Within the 6 years we have been together, there was a time...more like 3 years, when Tomas worked weekends and weekdays. Although I realize it's something he had to do to help out his mom...it wasn't easy for me. We talked to each other every night, but it's not the same. It was tough having my family consistenly remind me of his absence, with a simple nod and hand gesturing, where is he?

I must admit the time apart did give me an opportunity to focus on other interests. One thing I  learned is that although you love one another and would like to spend most of your time together, the reality is having your own individual time is beneficial to the relationship.  You fall in love with someone for who they were and together you start evolving into one, but acknowledging that it's healthy to have individual interests because it keeps you from losing yourself and makes the relationship stronger.

I for one love listening to Tomas talk about music; how an artist's album did, when it's going to be released, what the critics have to say; even if I sometimes get a little distracted. I love that he helps his family out, not only monetarily but with quality time...even if I get a little jealous of his time, ha. I love that he is hardworking, that he loves baseball and football even if I rather watch the other football (SOCCER) at times.

Tomas for one was very supportive when I got the opportunity to join APLA in 05'(Aids Project Los Angeles), which is an organization that prepared me for a half marathon. In return I raised money to provide assistance for people living with AIDS.  It gave me a chance to help, meet and train with new people. Tomas couldn't be there most of the time, but he assisted by helping my cousin Sandra and I with one of the fundraisers even if he had to work at 4am the next day. He made me realize how lucky I am to have somebody to share this moment with, even if he wasn't fully involved, he was there to push me along the way.
